Fortress Olavinlinna
Olavinlinna Castle (also known as Olafsborg, castle of St. Olaf's) located in the municipality of Savonlinna province of South Savo in Finland.
The castle was laid in 1475. Originally a separation point between Sweden and Novgorod. Fortress was an active participant in Russian-Swedish wars from 15 to 18 century. During its existence, it has witnessed many historical battles, repeatedly passed into the possession of it to the Swedes, by the Russian. Outside the fortress walls are two museums, which represent artifacts related to the history of the fortress. They were found in the castle grounds.
Today the medieval fortress is one of the biggest tourist centers in Finland. Since 1912, the fortress is held every summer the famous International Opera Festival. During the festival in the castle are the world ballet dancers, played by various theater groups. This major cultural event attracts many visitors from all over the world.
